Geolux radar sensors, datalogger, and HydroView software deliver reliable real-time water monitoring for flood prevention and drought management.

Geolux’s innovative LX-80 series radar sensors, SmartObserver datalogger, and HydroView cloud software offer a robust, low-maintenance solution for real-time monitoring of water levels, discharge, and environmental conditions, providing critical data for effective flood prevention and drought management.

The Need for Reliable Data

Floods and droughts affect millions globally each year. Accurate, real-time hydrological data is essential for disaster prevention, emergency response, and drought mitigation. Traditional monitoring stations, however, face limitations such as maintenance-heavy submerged instruments, costly installations, reliance on single communication links, and vulnerability to vandalism.

Geolux addresses these challenges with a family of instruments designed for accurate, reliable, and low-maintenance monitoring of rivers, channels, and lakes.

Geolux LX-80 Series

The LX-80 radar water level sensor uses 80 GHz radar with software-defined radio (SDR) to measure water surface distance. Installed above the water, it requires minimal maintenance.

For discharge measurement, the LX-80 pairs with the RSS-2-300W surface velocity radar. Together they deliver precise discharge calculations by combining:

  • Water level data
  • Surface velocity measurement
  • River channel profile

This method overcomes inaccuracies of Q–h curves and allows detection of reversed flow in tidal or tributary-affected rivers. Multiple surface velocity sensors can be deployed across wide channels for increased accuracy.

Geolux SmartObserver Datalogger

The SmartObserver datalogger integrates seamlessly with Geolux sensors and supports GPRS, 3G, NB-IoT, and LoRaWAN. Its built-in MPPT battery charger and power management keep energy use extremely low.

A station powered by a single 20 Ah battery can record and transmit data every 15 minutes for over three months. SmartObserver also supports Geolux HydroCam, a low-power camera for remote visual site inspection.

HydroView Software

HydroView, Geolux’s cloud-based platform, delivers hydrological data in real time. Features include:

  • Real-time monitoring and analysis
  • Historical data export
  • Remote reconfiguration of dataloggers and instruments
  • Alerts and warnings
  • Multiple discharge calculation models

For simplified setup, Geolux offers HydroStation — a preassembled package including solar panel, watertight enclosure, datalogger, battery, radar sensors, and HydroCam. Installation on a bridge or structure typically takes 30 minutes. HydroStations are compact, vandal-resistant, and support integration of additional third-party sensors.

Conclusion

By combining advanced radar sensors, a low-power datalogger, and a powerful cloud platform, Geolux provides a turnkey solution for water monitoring. These technologies improve disaster preparedness, support sustainable water management, and ensure reliable data for communities worldwide.
